Getting Started

Getting started with cloth diapering can be overwhelming! It was for me. Please keep in mind that Green Diaper Mom started because when I started cloth diapering my son, no one was available to answer my questions. I would love to talk to you! Please call/email me with any questions you may have.

The following are my personal recommendations based on my own experience. Click to find out what's in my stash.

Newborn: Newborn babies go to the bathroom. A lot. Parents estimate changing their child 10-12 times a day. Because of this, it's recommended that you purchase 30-36 newborn diapers if you want to wash every 2 days.

Baby: When your baby reaches 10 lbs or more, I recommend using One-Size diapers (this could include pocket diapers or all-in-ones). Your baby will be changed about 6-8 times a day. If you want to do wash every 2 days, I recommend 24 diapers. *you may start with fewer diapers and be on the look out for new, fun diapers*

Babies 6 months or older: I recommend using the hybrid/all in two diapers after 6 months of age because of what happens with the baby's poo. If you love these (which I do) a full set is considered 14 covers and 36 inserts.

Toddler: We have not experienced this stage yet, but 16-18 diapers are recommended. I anticipate using the same One Size diapers as when my son was a baby.

Potty Training: Again, new territory. There are cloth training pants that are new but have received great reviews. Current recommendations are for 2-4 starting out.

Recommended Starter Packages

If you want to start slowly and make sure cloth is the right choice for your family- I understand and want to support you. The starter packages listed below should give you an idea of what it's like to live with cloth. All packages include brand new diapers, a travel wetbag and a complimentary sample of a cloth diaper friendly soap- Tiny Bubbles. For an extra $10, I will prep (the process of preparing new diapers to wear) your new diapers for you.
